The convergence of voice and data with the use of a common infrastructure and a joint network have resulted in a lasting change of the telecommunication market. Voice is now using the data network, employing the internet protocol (IP).

Aastra’s patented DECT over IP® technology is bringing  mobile comfort to VoIP-networks. It is based on two technologies:

• Voice over IP (VoIP) Voice is send via the IP-data network to radio-base-stations.
• DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications), the leading technology for mobile voice communication, is used in between the radio-base-stations and the handsets.

This makes it possible to create unlimited, multi cellular DECT-networks using existing data infrastructure. This may include even remotely located company affiliates, which can be connected using standard VPN technology.

The SIP-Protocol (Session Initiation Protocol ) is a standard for communication in IP-networks. Most call manager systems (PABX, Asterisk, Centrex etc...) are already using SIP for internal and external communication. DECT over SIP enables you to add state of the art mobile voice communication to such systems.  

The well known advantages of DECT-radio networks are being maintained:

• 120 individual channels,
• scrambling,
• a reserved / exclusive radio frequency band,
• automatic channel allocation for unmatched voice quality,
• seamless handover,
• high talk and standby - times for the handsets.

The Aastra DECT over IP offering includes:

• DECT over SIP
  For all call manager systems (PABX, Asterisk, Centrex etc...) which already using SIP for internal communication.
  The DECT telephone Aastra Phone 142 supports perfect the functions they are used to a telephone systems like call Transfer (blind / after consultation), call waiting and missed call indicator, caller ID with name and with name on call waiting, call filter, hold call, hold call visual indication, etc.
